A Short Biography of Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Shrader Lawrence was born August 15, 1990, in Louisville, Kentucky. Her parents are Gary and Karen Lawrence and she has two older brothers, Ben and Blaine.
From an early age Jennifer was interested in acting and became involved with the local theatre. Many children toy with the idea of becoming an actor, but Jen was serious about it and when she was 14 she persuaded her parents to take her to New York so that she could enrol with a talent agency.
Jen got her big break in 2007 when she was cast as Lauren Pearson in The Bill Engvall Show and was so successful in the role that she won a Young Artist Award for Outstanding Young Performer in a TV Series.
Many people may not be aware of this, but in 2007 Jen auditioned for the part of Bella in Twilight. It would have been interesting to see what she could have brought to the movie, but it was not to be and the part went to Kirstin Stewart instead. Jen stated later that she was glad that she failed to get the part because of the massive amount of media attention the role would have brought with it.
In 2008 she had a small role in Garden Party and then worked opposite Charlize Theron and Kim Baisinger in The Burning Plain. Her performance won her the esteemed Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Emerging Actor/Actress. That same year she also received the Los Angeles Film Festival Award for Outstanding Performance for her role as Agnes in The Poker House.
In 2010 she starred as Ree Dolly in the movie Winter's Bone—the story of the trials and tribulations of a 17 year old who has to care for her mentally ill mother, while also taking care of her younger brother and sister and dealing with possible eviction from their home. Movie critics were impressed with Jen's performance and a review in The New Yorker stated that "The movie would be unimaginable with anyone less charismatic playing Ree." Peter Travers from Rolling Stone was equally impressed and said in his review "Her performance is more than acting, it's a gathering storm. Lawrence's eyes are a roadmap to what is tearing Ree apart." Once again Jen won an award for her part in the movie. This time The National Board of Review Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. She was also nominated for The Academy Award for Best Actress and was, at that point, the third youngest actress to ever be nominated in that category.
In 2011 Jen accepted the role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games and had to undergo intensive training in preparation for playing such a dynamic character. The movie was released March 23, 2012 and made an astonishing $152.5 million in just 3 days.

Praise for The Hunger Games
"No one who has seen The Hunger Games would question Jennifer Lawrence's ability to play an action star." Forbes "Lawrence embodies Katniss just as one might imagine her from the nove…" "...anchors the whole film with impressive gravity and presence!" " … the ideal screen actress." The Hollywood Reporter "Lawrence is strong and convincing in the central role." Chicago Sun-Times Jen will be returning as Katniss in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. In 2011 Jen was cast as bad-ass blue lady Mystique in X-Men First Class and has already agreed to work on upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014. |
Jennifer Lawrence is nothing if not versatile. In X-Men she is a villain; the Hunger Games saw her become an action star and in, 2012 she played the heroin in the horror movie House at the End of the Street. What was next on her agenda? Another very different role for Jen when she played widow Tiffany Maxwell in Silver Linings Playbook. She won Academy and Golden Globe awards for her work on the movie and once again the critics loved her.
"Lawrence is some kind of miracle. She's rude, dirty, funny, foulmouthed, sloppy, sexy, vibrant and vulnerable, sometimes all in the same scene, even in the same breath. No list of Best Actress Oscar contenders would be complete without the Electrifying Lawrence in the lead. She lights up the screen"
Rolling Stone magazine
Jennifer Lawrence has achieved a lot for someone so young, and she show no sign of slowing down; so who knows what her next great achievement will be. The girl is going places and the sky really does seem to be the limit for this talented young lady.
